Tomorrow arrives for Democrats.

Do you remember Bill and Hillary Clinton basking in the adulation of the 1992 Democratic National Convention? Do you remember the incessant playing of the Fleetwood Mac hit called, “Don’t Stop?” It became the Democratic Party theme song.

Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow. Don’t stop, it’ll soon be here.”

Well, true enough. Tomorrow is here. But not the tomorrow promised by Bill Clinton and the Democrats. That tomorrow never comes. Most of the time with respect to Democrats, it doesn’t have to. Each new round of Democrats promises a bright tomorrow to low-information voters that don’t know that none of the previously promised bright tomorrows ever came.

But now we have the prospect of a President Clinton Part Deux.

Inconveniently for Mrs. Clinton is the inescapable fact that the tomorrow that actually arrived – as opposed to the one that was promised on that July evening in 1992 when we first met her – has little to do with the hopeful lyrics of that Fleetwood Mac song.

Here in the today of 2015, as opposed to the tomorrow we were promised in 1992, we find 90 million able-bodied Americans out of the workforce, nearly 50 million Americans on food stamps, a staggering national debt, a crippling regulatory environment, growing contempt for the United States by our enemies concurrent with growing distrust by our allies, an economy stuck in second gear, declining wages and a shrinking middle class – all happening in a world increasingly gripped by chaos.

A person who voted for the first time as an 18-year old in 1992 will be a solidly middle-aged 42 come Election Day 2016. Those voters have grown up. They’re now faced with staggeringly high college tuition for their kids, rapidly rising health care costs, a stagnant income, limited prospects for career advancement coupled with the constant fear of job loss, limited capacity to save money (and no safe way to earn money on savings anyway) – all contributing to the gnawing fear that the retirement that once seemed so distant will soon enough come to hand with little set aside to provide for it.

Increasingly, those who voted for the first time in 1992 can’t stop thinking about tomorrow because the prospect of tomorrow is keeping them awake nights.

The post-racial America of Democratic Party-making that was to bask in the glow of a Middle East finally at peace, that was to have finally gotten health care costs under control and that was to have at last replaced poverty with economic security for every American has never materialized.

Thus, the Democrats in 2016 are going to need a new theme song. The 1963 Chad & Jeremy Top 40 hit comes to mind. It went,

I loved you all the summer through,
I thought I’d found my dream in you.
For me you were the one,
but that was yesterday, and yesterday’s gone.”

Works, doesn’t it?

  1. You are right about the Democrats, but much of what you say applies likewise to the Republicans who, in their turn, have pledged again and again over the years to roll back the liberal virus, but then failed to do much. I’m old enough to remember the “Contract with America.” I was truly excited. But then nothing came of it. Republicans dived into the pork barrel and some never came up. At the Arlington Tea Party recently, Joe Barton gave us the same speech he delivered a decade ago–“We just need more time to get the job done,” and “You have to go along to get along.”

Well said Paul. Keep up the good work.

You are spot on about the theme song and what it SHOULD be. The liberals count on the short term memory most people have and it has worked time and again. Mainly because the republicans fail to make a list and hammer it in to remind people of the broken promises of BOTH parties! What I hate hearing more than anything is the old worn out…”you have to go along to get along”! That and the word COMPROMISE has ruined this nation! We can not move forward or fix anything with that attitude!!!

The sad reality is that the Democrat nominee will have a large constituency which either does not realize or care that they are being deceived about the promises to improve their lives. As Linda and Buddy point out, the Republicans, especially those recently elected to Congress, have also failed to live up to their campaign rhetoric. If one will take the time to read the manifesto of Karl Marx on how to create a communist state without ever firing a shot, it will be obvious that the present Democrat party is certainly following many of his ideas. One of the key requirements is to have an uneducated population, which is gullible and will accept the lyrics of the “Don’t Stop” myth, much as Charlie Brown continues to think that Lucy will not move the football again and again. With the Democrat party in collusion with the teachers’ unions, along with the deterioration of the family unit, we have a large number of “low information”voters who are back on the plantation serving their masters. When the Black citizens of our country are so adversely affected by the Democrat policies, and continue to vote as a reliable 95%block for these politicians, how else can you explain this masochistic behavior?Maybe with role models like Dr. Ben Carson, instead of Rev. Al Sharpton, we can see a reason for optimism for the future our valuable fellow citizens.
