I have now voted in eleven presidential elections and my record is six and five, a half game above .500. Which is to say I have lost nearly as many presidential elections as I have won. So why am I so upset about losing this one?

President Obama is trying to salvage something from an otherwise disastrous debate performance in Denver. That salvage operation has taken the form of going after Mitt Romney for going after Big Bird.

A choice between two futures.

Two items hit the news on the same day this week. First, San Bernadino became the third California city in less than a month to file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection. Second, CNBC has again ranked Texas as the number one state for business.

Why you may be frustrated.

If you’re frustrated or scared I think I know why. Not only is nothing being done about our problems, little of use is even being said.

Nothing to run on.

If you were a true Obama believer during the 2008 campaign, the State of the Union address Tuesday had to have rung hollow when listened to against the backdrop of three years of actual experience under an Obama administration.

It doesn’t matter.

President Obama recently said that it doesn’t really matter who the Republican nominee winds up being. For once, I agree with him.

What if a candidate told the truth?

Members of the ruling class from both sides of the aisle, together with various media elites, are all over Rick Perry for his comments regarding Social Security. Their criticism of Perry is condescending in its assumption that the American people can’t handle the truth.

Who’s it gonna be, GOP?

Don’t kid yourself. Obama will be a formidable opponent for whomever the Republicans nominate and none of those in the field today excite the way Reagan did in 1979.
