Unconvincing.

The president’s objective on Tuesday was to make the case for using military force in response to those chemical weapon attacks and toward that goal, he accomplished nothing.

On the wane.

Forces for good in the world – the United States, Britain, France, NATO – are losing power and influence. The forces for evil – al-Qaeda, Russia, Iran – are gaining power and influence.

The unwilling.

For the first time since Lord North in 1782, the British House of Commons has denied a prime minister the authority to enter a war. That it is a “war” proposed by Barack Obama of the United States is testament to how far the U.S. has fallen.

The re-run president.

The re-run president.

Just as M*A*S*H was once fresh and original but is today tired and worn out, so too are President Obama’s speeches.

The fourth branch.

The fourth branch of government consists of about 50 federal agencies under various cabinet-level departments that have over time accumulated astonishing autonomy to write and enforce rules and regulations.

Obama voters: enjoy your victory quickly.

If you’re celebrating Obama’s victory, be careful. You own President Obama and President Obama owns the economy and world events. Given the parlous state of both, prudence dictates that you keep your glee in check.

The inconvenience of truth.

At the Democratic National Convention, much was made of the president’s successes in the Middle East. Exactly one week later, the real world intervened.

Kicking Big Bird out of the nest.

President Obama is trying to salvage something from an otherwise disastrous debate performance in Denver. That salvage operation has taken the form of going after Mitt Romney for going after Big Bird.

Can I just go home?

Obama’s lack of enthusiasm for the exchange with Romney was palpable. I think President Obama likes the title but now hates the job. What we saw in the first debate was the face of a man who dreads going to work.
