Another day, another sex scandal.

By a show of hands, upon hearing the news that a photo of a male bulging in his skivvies was posted to New York Representative Anthony Weiner’s Twitter account, how many believed that it wasn’t Anthony Weiner?

Nobody?

OK, then. Who didn’t believe he was lying when he first proposed that his account had been hacked?

Still nobody?

All right, try this one. How many believed that in short enough order, Representative Weiner would be forced to call a press conference at which he would tearfully confess to having made a “terrible mistake?”

OK, there we go!  All hands up.

What a cliché the ruling class sex scandal has become. They all follow the same pattern. Revelation. Denial. Cover-up. Confession. If only the pattern continued to its next logical step, that of resignation. But, alas, it never does.

Our ruling elites expect you to believe that even when revealed to have exercised the poorest possible judgment in their personal lives, they are nonetheless capable of principled and discerning judgment with respect to their duty to act in the best interests of the country.

And thus the American people become incrementally more cynical.

If Anthony Weiner had announced at his presser yesterday that he was stepping down, he would have done himself and the Congress and the American people a world of good. But it didn’t happen.

That would have required character — something that is grievously lacking among the ruling class.

Sadly, character is something lacking in our elected officials today. It is not one party or the other, both are guilty. But how they deal with it shows a fatal flaw of one party over the other. Now, if this had been a Republican, there would have been no question of him stepping down because the “party” would have seen to it that happened. This, however, happened to be a democrat and true to the democratic code, they circle the wagons and pull out that ragged little pamplet of Saul Alinsky’s called Rules For Radicals. This is when they start the transfer of blame and start ridiculing those who call for the person to step aside. WE become the target instead of the perpetrator of the crime. It is an all to predictable occurrence. Let’s look at Barney Frank, Charlie Rangle and the BIG one, Ted Kennedy, just to name a few. All should have been removed from office, but remained and in Kennedy’s case, for 40 years! Weiner is just another liberal whose lack of morals, lack of decency and lack of good judgement coupled with a huge dose of arrogance got him caught with his hand in the cookie jar. But thanks to his liberal friends, he will join an elite club of others who have walked away scot free. The double standard seems to work. How about a novel idea of standing up to vermin like this and say, NO MORE. We have had enough of your lies, your deceit and your lack of moral decency!
For me, if someone who was elected to make major decisions that affect our lives on a day to day basis, is caught doing something as perverted as Weiner was caught doing, is NOT competent to remain in the office in which he was entrusted. Especially when he admitted in making “dumb decisions…repeatedly”. Someone who makes dumb mistakes, dumb decisions on a regular basis, needs to step aside. I don’t know about the New Yorker’s, but I wouldn’t want him making decisions affecting MY life!

Or he could pull a Larry Craig or David Vitter, fine Republicans caught in sex scandals that chose to remain in office, and in Vitter’s case, run again. We will be better off when all politicians do the right thing in situations like these, not just the ones Linda Montrose doesn’t like.
