I sign the checks but it’s your radio station.

I do sign the checks. A seemingly endless stream of them. None of them will clear, however, if you don’t listen and, in so doing, create an audience that we can offer to advertisers. So in effect, the radio station is yours. And while we always know that, sometimes it’s brought foursquare to our attention. I happen to be a believer in local radio. As a talk radio manager and owner of over 30 years,...

Only two sane voices remaining in a once-great party?

The Democrats in Congress, together with party operatives, left wing blogs and websites and many in the media, believe or say they believe that General David Petraeus is lying in his testimony to Congress regarding the progress of the war in Iraq. Did they somehow not see the fruit salad on Gen. Petraeus’s chest – row upon row of decorations signifying distinguished service that spans a career in the military serving commanders-in-chief from both parties?...

102 Minutes that changed everything.

One year ago today, I was in New York City at Ground Zero covering the activities and remembrances in connection with the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. One of the five video pieces I produced in connection with that coverage bears repeating. You can watch the video here.

Debra Burlingame always gets it just right.

Debra Burlingame is the sister of Charles Burlingame, III, the captain of American Airlines flight 77 that was overtaken by terrorists and deliberately crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. She has written numerous articles and opinion pieces since the day she lost her brother. All of them have been masterful in striking just the right chord. She does it again in this article published today, Sept. 11, 2007 in The New York Daily...

Hey Paul, what’s with you and the Iraq War?

Several here at the radio station have pointed out that since starting this blog, a high percentage of my posts have been about the Iraq War. I have opinions on many subjects other than the Iraq War. My problem is that the subjects don’t matter much in the long run if we fail in our prosecution of Iraq. Any number of articles can now be easily found that state unequivocally that the surge in Iraq...

And it’s still a festering hell hole.

If someone asked you how much the federal government has spent on New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina two years ago, could you tell them? I knew it was a lot. But I was unprepared for the actual number that I read in this article by Larry Kudlow. Click the link and then be sure you’re sitting down. Did you have any idea? YOU TELL ME.

Most redemption comes late.

French prime minister Georges Clemenceau nailed it when he said that war is a series of catastrophes that culminate in victory. We look back on the wars we won and we fail to see that in almost all cases, the outcome was in doubt until very late in the contest. Peter Wehner draws on the history of the Civil War in this article to illustrate where we stand today in Iraq. If you have wanted...

Listen to Lieberman

I have developed a Pavlovian response to seeing the name Lieberman in the byline of an article. I pick up or click on a Lieberman article as quickly as I possibly can. The independent Democrat senator from Connecticut, in a break with the overwhelming majority of his lifelong party, has been crystal clear and uncommonly eloquent in his support of the U.S. effort in Iraq and in the broader struggle against Islamic facsism. Sen. Lieberman...

It’s not ideology, it’s entertainment.

Another left-leaning talk network has failed. Read the New York Post story here. This time it’s Greenstone Media’s all female talk network that has gone off the air. This in the wake of the liberal Air America network, which last year filed for protection under Chapter 11 and has since emerged and is hanging on to its few affiliates by a slender thread. If it’s not entertaining, no one will listen to it. The backers...

It’s working. Are we going to stick with it?

More and more, despite a mainstream press that isn’t much interested in telling us, we learn that the fundamental shift in strategy brought about by Gen. David Petraeus is working. Clifford May provides specifics in his article here. I’m more than willing to support a continued commitment in Iraq particularly in light of growing evidence of success. What about you? YOU TELL ME.

The defining struggle of the 21st century is still in its early stages.

The defining struggle of the 20th century was the Cold War. Could nations possessed of nuclear weapons restrain their impulses to use them? That struggle ended well and ended when it did because of the resolve of the U.S. president. Ronald Reagan “got it.” The next president faces the defining struggle of the still-young 21st century. That struggle is with Islamofascism. Up until 9/11, no Western nation “got it.” Now, we face a choice in...

Tax the few, lose the few.

Economic education in America being in the sorry state that it is, few people understand the real dynamics of taxation. This leads inevitably to the belief that raising tax RATES will inevitably raise tax REVENUE. Politicians, ever hungry for more revenue (with which they purchase high-visibilty job security), scramble to raise rates, almost always saying they are only raising rates on “the rich.” One of the many good things about being rich is that you...
