Selective outrage.

I have been taken to task in the comments on the post just prior to this one by John, a listener and reader who accused me of being dismissive of the significance of Donald Trump’s comments about women. He said that his concern is driven in part by the fact that he has two daughters. (So do I, John, just for the record.)

He said that multiple women have come forward “corroborating” what was heard in the hot-mic tape of Donald Trump talking crudely about what he likes to do with beautiful women.

The fact is neither he nor anyone else knows that there is corroboration. What we know is that multiple women have, at just this particular moment, come forward. Why now? What were they waiting for? The timing is rather opportune, is it not?

I’m not proud of Donald Trump. He is worthy of strong criticism. But we need some consistency. If Donald Trump’s words regarding women are disqualifying, why aren’t Hillary Clinton’s? There is little doubt that she was ruthless in her attempts to discredit Paula Jones, Juanita Broaddrick and other women who accused her husband. There is little doubt that she suborned her husband’s abusive behavior.

If Trump’s words about women are such an outrage, why do Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton so enthusiastically associate with rapper Jay-Z? Jay-Z has been a guest at the White House and he is a big supporter of Hillary Clinton. Here are some of his words about women in his hit record, “Big Pimpin.’”

You know I thug em, f**k ‘em, love ‘em, leave ‘em
Cause I don’t f**kin’ need ‘em
Take ‘em out the hood, keep ‘em lookin’ good
But I don’t f**kin’ feed ‘em…

And so on. It gets much worse.

What Donald Trump said about women in private is as nothing compared to what’s out in the culture and openly celebrated by many on the Left.

John, what about your daughters vis. a. vis. those Jay-Z lyrics?

If what Trump said is such an outrage, how does Hillary Clinton remain married to Bill? How does she continue to embrace the support of the likes of Jay-Z? Trump said what he said in what he thought was a private conversation. Jay-Z sold millions of copies of “Big Pimpin’” to the public.

If Dems or queasy Republicans are “outraged,” the outrage is rather selective. If those Republicans cannot in good conscience support Donald Trump, how do they reconcile the fact that their lack of support for Trump constitutes de facto support for Hillary Clinton?

With respect to the treatment of women, are Hillary Clinton’s skirts any cleaner than Donald Trump’s?

How do these Republicans then reconcile that they are helping to elect a woman who is evidently not outraged by a rapper who donates money to her from the millions made from recordings that talk about women in the most vile ways imaginable?

How do they reconcile the possibility of sending two people with an actual history of mistreating women back to the White House?

With respect to this very tawdry election and with respect to the treatment of women by either candidate, any honest expression of outrage can only come after navigating a very congested path. There may be a less objectionable choice for president. There is no really good choice.

It is a serious issue, John, and I can assure you that I am not the least bit dismissive.

Your long tirade seems to imply that I am a supporter of Mrs. Clinton. Since this is inaccurate, I will dismiss the majority of your comments and focus on the issue that I raised in my original statement.

Mr. Trump has admitted in graphic detail to various types of unseemly behavior. Afterwards, several women have come forward and alleged that they were victims of that very behavior. In other words, they “corroborated” his story.

This minor linguistic mistake can easily be overlooked, but your later statement cannot. By questioning the timing of their accounts, you have dismissed the veracity of their allegations entirely. Victims of sexual abuse are reticent to come forward because of this very attitude. By trying to silence them, you are in effect silencing every woman who has had the misfortune to find herself in this situation.

I’m deeply saddened that the party of Reagan is beginning to abandon Christian values. We might still be the “shining city upon a hill”, but our light has been greatly diminished in recent years.

You and I have nothing more to discuss on this issue.

  2. In addressing the hypocrisy of the left and elites in general, one is hard pressed to know where to begin. Moral outrage from the likes of Public Radio, the new media, those who make TV shows and movies, etc.? They have no such concern. Every day by word and action they make it clear that they consider moral standards a joke. They wallow in trash and defend it as art. Our local newspaper, the Star-Telegram,runs fawning reviews of “deliciously” crude books and movies. So does Public Radio. All this feigned Trump outrage is about getting power in Hillary Clinton’s grubby little hands.

The Star-Telegram, by the way, is a paper we no longer take. We cancelled our subscription today. The last straw was their failure to even mention Hillary Clinton’s email scandals even as they keep up a drumbeat attack on Donald Trump. My wife and I pay for ALL the news, not just that which the paper’s elites want us to have. So we are gone and good riddance to that dishonest conniving rag of a paper.

As an AMERICAN, who loves our country as founded, our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, the choice is clear. Who is the candidate who holds our heritage and our Constitution and our Supreme Court in high esteem? Only one, Donald Trump. I will be voting for him without reservation and without fear, but rather with tremendous hope! as he has demonstrated repeatedly, he truly loves The United States and will indeed work with all his “heart” to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Trump has apologized, which is far more than I can say about the Clintons. Her, for lying about everything, and him, about the “bimbo eruptions” in the 90’s. Both are sanctimonious hypocrites. Has anyone thought about why all this is coming out? I say it is to re-direct the public’s attention from all the Wikileaks’ emails.

Has anyone listened to clinton’s potty mouth when she is talking when she thinks no one is listening? The way she talks to staff…secret service. Her favorite words are MFers!!! Perhaps it is from all that rap music she listens to. Has anyone really listen to that stuff. It is trash talking women beyond anything Trump has said. Get real people, men talk…it is an ego thing. But what comes out of clinton’s mouth is directed at people she thinks are beneath her…which is just about everyone! I am voting for Trump regardless of what crap the clintons want to trash him with because number one, nothing she tries to make him look worse than her works!!!
