The intolerableness of Donald Trump.

Imagine if you are an elite, coastal liberal living in a country whose president is Donald Trump. Imagine what you must be thinking – and more apt in the case of liberals – what you must be feeling.

You now live in a country in which Donald Trump is doing unspeakable things. Worse, none of it would be happening if he hadn’t colluded with the Russians to steal the election.

Let’s take stock.

The racist, xenophobic Trump is actually having the gall to enforce existing immigration law. He is doing it such that illegal immigrants are having a much harder time getting into the country and worse, have in large numbers stopped even trying. This means that the steady supply of the poor, uneducated and government-dependent upon which Democrats rely for votes is being curtailed. If it goes on long enough, it will have generational impact on future elections for Democrats.

Next you are confronted by the homophobic, trans-phobic Trump. That incarnation of this unthinkable presidency is insisting that the military not only be re-strengthened, he is insisting that it not engage in social experimentation by allowing openly transgender soldiers in its ranks. This threatens decades of hard work by liberals. Gays in the military—and now transgenders in the military – have been seen by the Left as a two-fer. In one policy stroke liberals get to micromanage the American armed forces in a way they would never be able to otherwise, while simultaneously pandering to a reliable voting bloc.

Then there’s the unapologetically capitalist Trump. With pen stroke after pen stroke he is dashing away business regulation after business regulation carefully put in place by his predecessor and the permanent federal bureaucracy. Who will keep greedy businessmen in their places now?

The “one percenter” Trump is busy trying to reduce taxes on the “rich.” From whence shall come the money with which Democrats may buy votes through expansion of the welfare state?

The climate-denier Trump is reining in the hard-left bureaucrats of the EPA. By what alternate mechanism may liberals keep a crushing thumb on the American economy if the EPA is kept in bounds?

And then, of course, the callous, uncaring, unfeeling Trump is trying to get Obamacare repealed. Obamacare has gotten liberals so close to the promised land of single-payer national health care. Now that progress stands threatened.

To a greater degree than with any prior Republican, if you’re a liberal, Donald Trump is plainly and simply intolerable.

But if you’re not a coastal liberal – if you’re a middle class, middle-of-the-country, long-beleaguered taxpayer – it turns out that Donald Trump is the gem you’ve been sifting through the Republican gravel trying to find.

The two camps – Left and Right – now stand facing each other with the camp on the right having far and away the more dynamic general. Thus we understand the furious attempt by the Left to sweep away all prior convention, custom and rule of law to take down a duly-elected American president

It’s happening in real time.

Keep on getting the agenda of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA done PRESIDENT TRUMP! Thank you for your many accomplishments thus far, and many more coming over this first term & your second term after that.

On the other hand, contact Senator Mitch McConnell*, and let him know he needs to get the President’s agenda moving in the Senate ASAP starting with REPEAL of Obamacare as he* promised…. by “ROOT and BRANCH” meaning “IN TOTO.” And TAX CUTS. These two items are imperative.

Another excellent post Paul. We always look forward to your comments on KTBB and then on this format.

What continually keeps the liberals drawers in a wad is the FACT that President Trump is trying his best to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! This in turn EXPOSES the liberal agenda of taking America DOWN. Like you said, Mr. Gleiser, the liberals have worked very hard to stop America from moving forward…for people to achieve the “American Dream” and live in a free, prosperous environment. They have piece by piece dismantled the provisions put in place by our founders to keep this REPUBLIC on the right path of the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. I was born in the 50’s and grew up in an America that is so far from what we see today it makes me think I have awakened into a nightmare. We do not live in the America I grew up in and the America Mr. Trump is trying his best to revitalize into a place where ALL AMERICANS can prosper and live in freedom to pursue their dreams…whatever they may be! I have a message to you liberals out there…STOP this childishness and STOP looking for monsters under the bed that just plain aren’t there!!! GROW UP. OPEN YOUR MINDS to FACTS, not fantasy. ALLOW The President that WE ELECTED to DO HIS JOB. STOP being LEMMINGS to an agenda that is GOING TO FAIL!

    • Brendan says:

What was the best part of the 50’s Mrs. Montrose? Segregation, McCarthyism, the Cold War, or the Korean War? So hard to choose…

  4. We can’t be betrayed by the Democrats. Their agenda isn’t our agenda. We believe in personal freedom and free markets. They are socialists eager to control everything with more government. But every day we ARE being betrayed by many Republicans. McConnell and McCain, to name to of the worst and most dishonest. Both voted endlessly to repeal Obamacare only because they knew Obamacare was safe under its namesake. But come the first opportunity to really repeal and they revealed with their vote and actions where they really stand–with the big government Democrats.

Paul, you cite Trump’s success regarding immigration control. Had he had to rely on Congress for what he has accomplished, McConnell and his ilk would have done nothing and be reminding us that Congress works in mysterious and very slow ways, if at all.

The elites are yapping that Trump’s immigration control efforts are causing a shortage of workers, this in a country where something near half the able-bodied population doesn’t work and are supported by those of us who DO work.

How about this for a welfare police that address both workforce shortages and immigration. Tie welfare benefits to the unemployment rate–reduce welfare such as food stamps, Section 8, and the endless other government handouts when demand for additional workers is high. We’d rather see unfilled jobs filled by citizens formerly on on welfare as opposed to the liberal solution–more illegals. Put bluntly, I’d rather see an able-bodied bum starve for want of government assistance, rather than pay taxes so he can watch TV all day while I work. But odds are, rather than starve, that moocher might just go out and take one of those jobs “Americans won’t do.”

  5. DID YOU SEE General Kelly writhing as Trump went off-the-rails this afternoon?
    Surreal.

    • Paul Gleiser says:

Did you see what you wanted to see rather than hear what was being said?

    • Paul Gleiser says:

Let’s be very clear regarding Kelly’s reaction — or that of anyone else who is on Trump’s team. They were reacting not because of a lack of truth to what the president was saying. They were reacting because they knew what the ideologically-blinded media was going to do with his statement.

Nothing that Trump said Tuesday — and I watched the whole thing — was untrue. Nothing. There is racial hatred, bigotry and incipient violence on both the left and the right in America. Both sides in Charlottesville contributed to the violence of this past weekend.

The white nationalists in Charlottesville that stirred up the riot that wound up killing a young woman are equally as detestable as the BLM-ers who assassinated two NYPD police officers sitting in their patrol car.

It is the asymmetry of the reaction from the media to the Charlottesville white nationalist mischief of this summer as compared to the Black Lives Matter mischief of last summer that has Trump — and now me — hot under the collar.

As to the media reaction, it is their sudden inability to intimidate a Republican president into silence that has given them an acute case of the vapors.

There is a huge problem in America with respect to race. And by my admittedly subjective observation,it is much worse today than it was when the supposedly post-racial presidency of Barack Obama began.

Of this I am certain: the enormous problem of race in America will not be solved by intimidating people of my principles and beliefs — i.e. conservatives — into remaining silent for fear of the hysteria now being endured by Donald Trump.

Such has been happening, to an ever increasing degree, for a generation now. Trump has, for better or worse, decided to stop being intimidated.

Read this week’s post, which will appear tomorrow (Friday) at 3:00 p.m. CDT.

    • Richard Anderson says:

To qualify the comments of Gov. Kasich, one must know the facts and the truth. Gov. Kasich BROKE his word and would NOT endorse the Republican nominee as he had promised. He, unlike President Trump, was NOT a man of his word. He has been opposed to Trump as the nominee and now duly elected President by The American People from day one.

The facts are these… President Trump, unlike his predecessor, is NOT going to give ANY quarter to ANY hate group no matter who they are or what destructive agenda they advocate. Thus, this means, he is going to condemn and “call out” anyone or any group who are opposed to our Constitution and our country as founded. And he will defend our Constitution, against all enemies foreign or domestic as “The Oath of Office” stated. Our country was established, One Nation, Under GOD, In Freedom, With Justice, with the cornerstone of LIFE, LIBERTY, and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS for ALL.

God bless President Trump, The United States of America, and our Constitution & The Declaration of Independence upon which our Republic is anchored. Long may our Flag, The Star-Spangled Banner, as the symbol of FREEDOM wave!
