MSNBC may say “Lean Forward.” But they’ll always lean left.

If you watched the Republican presidential debate on MSNBC you might have seen commercials that are a part of the network’s campaign to pull itself out of the ratings cellar. The campaign is called, “Lean Forward,” and it rather unabashedly celebrates MSNBC’s left-of-center editorial policy.

One such commercial featured Rachel Maddow standing in front of the Hoover Dam.

The commercial is an implicit endorsement of big government and all the good things that flow therefrom. If only we will all have sufficient vision to let government do great things, America will be the strong, proud nation we all want it to be.

“We’ve got those projects on the menu right now,” meaning projects on the scale of a Hoover Dam, says Ms. Maddow. “And we’ve got to figure out whether or not we’re a country that can think this big.”

In other words, you right-wing obstructionist, stop opposing things like stimulus spending.

There are so many ways to go in responding to this sophistry. The constraints of space limit me to this one.

Rachel, (may I call you Rachel?), the irony of your invocation of the Hoover Dam as an illustration of big government doing good is the fact that if the Hoover Dam were proposed today, it would never get built. I made this exact point in this very space on May 13 last year following the BP oil well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico.

If proposed today, the Hoover Dam would drown in a flood of environmental lawsuits and liberal environmental demogoguery. A rouge’s gallery of far left environmental groups – the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth USA, the Earth Justice Legal Defense Fund and God only knows how many others – would tie the Hoover Dam up in knots much like the Lilliputians that vexed Gulliver.

It would make no difference how much devastating flooding would be brought under control by the proposed dam. It would matter not how much desert land could be made to bear fruit from the resulting irrigation. None of these far-left groups would give a rat’s behind how much carbon emission-free electricity – to light up major portions of three states – would be generated.

The issue would be Bonytail Chub and Colorado Pikeminnow and Razorback Suckers, three species of fish whose habitats would be sufficiently inconvenienced by the dam as to possibly endanger their existence. On behalf of fish you’ve never heard of, an avalanche of progress-stopping lawsuits would be filed.

And you, Rachel, and your lefty pals at MSNBC, would be right there mounting the ramparts. It would be you on the air, fulminating and shrieking, and doing your best to kill such a horrific crime against nature.

The Hoover Dam was, in fact, a great accomplishment and is an example of a big government project done right. Why is that so? Because it simultaneously accomplished something that was out of reach for private industry while enabling actual, quantifiable economic progress. Such projects are not the types of things that big-government liberals support today.

Rachel Maddow, posturing on behalf of MSNBC in front of the Hoover Dam, is hypocrisy in its purest form.

MSNBC will continue to lean left. And continue to wallow in the ratings cellar.

Lean forward? My gosh, how many catchy phrases are they going to tory…call it like it T I is…more tax money for projects that suffered for decades as the attempted to redistribute wealth.

Lefties forget the primary rule of government spending…The government has no money, income or way to pay for anything unless they take it from those of us who have it. We the People pay for everything with our sweat, our inovations and our labor. The government has to take it from us first.

Oh, by the way…the Hoover Dam pays for itself by generating Electric power for Nevada, California and Arizona…

But…but…but…I thought the Enviornmentalists hated the fact that the river is not wild anymore????

Rick, as always, your answer hits the nail on the head…it is NOT the governments money! Something once OUR money reaches the national treasury, is forgotten.
It is just like the left to take such an example as the Hoover Dam and skew the facts for their own agenda. Take a daub of truth and mix with a liberal amount of distortion equals the propaganda we hear from the liberal media. Such is the sad state of our media outlets today. What is sadder still, is the mindless acceptance of this garbage by those who believe what they are hearing without fact checking. Exactly what the left is counting on!
Some of this stuff I hear, makes me wonder…do people like this Rachel Maddow REALLY believe the garbage that comes out of their mouths???? Or, are they so far gone, the truth means nothing to them anymore?
