Facts don’t matter to liberals but facts matter.

No matter how high and how persuasive the mountain of readily available evidence that what they believe doesn’t work, liberals never question their own beliefs.

There’s no use in pointing out to them, for example, that the War on Poverty failed. First of all, you need to be talking to someone who is at the very minimum 60 years old for there to be any real recollection of the War on Poverty. A person who was of legal voting age in 1965 when the War of Poverty was launched by Lyndon Johnson, is 71 years old today.

As the age of the person you’re talking to gets younger, you find yourself increasingly talking to someone who has never lived when there weren’t massive federal programs directed at addressing poverty.

But senior citizen or millennial, you will likely surprise either one when you say that the United States has spent $22 trillion since 1965 on an alphabet soup of anti-poverty programs. What’s more, that individual likely doesn’t know that $22 trillion is more than the country has spent fighting every actual war since the Revolutionary War, which ended in 1783.

Liberals either don’t know or willingly dismiss the fact that despite such a staggering expenditure, the poverty rate in the U.S. is essentially unchanged in 50 years.

But the fact that your liberal listener doesn’t know these things doesn’t matter. The noble intentions of the War on Poverty are sufficient unto themselves. Thus, despite a half century spent fighting a ‘war’ that hasn’t conquered an inch of ground, liberals feel completely justified in their calls for greater welfare spending.

In a similar vein, you will never connect with the solidly factual argument that the public school systems that spend the most money per pupil are almost invariably the school systems with the worst results. The response by liberals to dismal public schools will always be a call for increased spending. After all, it’s for the children.

Try to make the case that nuclear families constitute the greatest defense against poverty and you’ll be accused of having it in for single mothers. Few liberals will believe you if you say that a child raised in a household with two committed parents – irrespective of household income or race – has a less than 10 percent chance of living in poverty as an adult.

Tell that same liberal that black kids who graduate high school wind up in the middle class at nearly the same rates as white high school graduates and you’ll be dismissed as a liar.

Facts don’t matter to liberals but facts matter. And the fact is this: social welfare spending since 1965 (not including Social Security and Medicare) accounts for 121 percent of our staggering national debt. The country has spent itself into penury on well-intentioned but demonstrably ineffective liberal social engineering.

So back to my question of a week ago. When you’ve done something for 50 years to no good effect, isn’t it worth at least considering trying something else?

  1. It boggles the mind that liberals fail to see something so obvious as the abject failure of their war on poverty. Their thought process pathology is something I will never understand. Impossible to educate them.

Liberals are not interested in solving “poverty” even though they claim it to be their goal in order to gain legitimacy in the public eye. That is their excuse (actually a LIE) to gain power for themselves and to grow government in perpetuity with Liberals in charge. It has worked for 50 years. Why would their leaders and victims consider changing their approach since they have successfully exchanged facts for fantasy in the world of Liberal domination in our culture?

Until a FACT based message of a moral society (that follows the Constitution) has a greater MEGAPHONE than the Liberal/Marxist power brokers that run this country, nothing is going to change. I know of NO lasting major reversals of the plunge to destitution and tyranny that the Liberals have orchestrated for the last 50 years.

Unfortunately, the “low information voters” that comprise 50% of the electorate have already accepted the Liberal fantasy as fact and can not see past the LIE in which the Liberals blame the Conservatives for the problems of the country. It is the Conservatives that must change their methods to get the FACTS accepted as truth in spite of the Liberal LIE! Perhaps a lot of tough love and ridding ourselves of the politically correct, big government, and weak Republicans that confuse the message would be a start.

If you are democrat it doesn’t matter. Neither do the rino elected officials! So it is perpetuated until such time as it assumes a growth of it’s own. About the same time as the war on poverty was started, Dallas started it’s grandiose community college system. Check the budget of that monster now!

Truth and facts are foreign to the liberal mindset. Their mantra is one of shame for not wanting to “help” children or old folks or whatever the reason they want an agenda passed. In actuality, it never helps, but only plunges us deeper and deeper into debt. Once a program of “help” is in the works, no matter if it is obvious to the world it is NOT helping, but worsening the situation, a liberal will argue to the death that they are right and you are wrong. It has to be some kind of virus that affects the brains of liberals to cause such abject stupidity that nothing penetrates their pea brains!

Such good answers from you-all. Let us resolve ourselves that when the elections come & hopefully we get a change of administrations that the new (GOP) will be able to change a lot of things for the better & it will be apparent enough to everyone who is more helpful to the USA.

As far as ‘programs’ go ,the bigger the depts. go the harder it is to change just by virtue of size. It’s like turning the Queen Mary ship compared to a smaller boat. I have been in depts. where the older , senior people make the decisions period. If you are not older & with a lot of seniority no one listens to you.
USA has a reputation for “band -aid approaches” to problems.
This poverty fix is a good example. Somehow there is lots of good intentions followed by no follow up yet a “NEW” dept. with new employees to care for & not to be & UN -employed by fiat.
Also in these latter years, more & more you are judged by color.
I always thought we all have RED BLOOD. Everyone is a child of GOD so we are all in the same family of humans.

In my opinion,Solomon’s comments are right on target (much as the wise Solomon in the Bible). We attach too much altruism to the motives of L.B.J. and the Liberals, as their stated goal was to capture the Black vote for the next 100 years. Well, 50 years down and 50 years to go, if we even survive as a representative republic that long. The fact that Democrats enjoy approximately 95% of the Black vote tells me that this new plantation is exactly what the designers of the “war on poverty” intended. The breakup of the family unit, poor education, criminal behavior, and all of the other side-effects of this political tactic have decimated a valuable asset to our wonderful country. History will not be kind to those who have exploited our fellow citizens for their own political power, and the race agitators (community organizers, etc.) will have their own special recognition for their contribution to the demise of our society. Other than that this scheme is working, how else can anyone possibly explain that the standard bearer of the Democrat Party is someone with the credentials and character of Hillary, and that they still adore her husband? Can you imagine her as president, and Bill lurking around the white house? If we do manage to survive our first affirmative action president, a Clinton administration will drive the final nails into the coffin!
