Hell yes, he’s doing a good job.

“I know you voted for him. But you can’t actually believe that Donald Trump is doing a good job,” said a lefty acquaintance recently.

Well, yes, I replied, not only can I believe that he’s doing a good job I, in fact, do believe it.

Why!?, asked my interrogator, eyes bulging and jaw agape, barely able to catch her breath.

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because he’s actually doing what he said he would do – something we don’t much expect from politicians. (Oh wait, Donald Trump isn’t a politician. That’s one of the big reasons that my liberal friend, along with establishment types from both parties, can’t stand him.)

Let’s take stock of Mr. Trump’s first 100 days.

From the start, he began stripping the Federal Register of job-killing, prosperity-stifling federal regulations at a rate never before seen in a new presidency. The regulations promulgated by executive branch agencies are clearly within the scope of the president’s authority and President Trump has not hesitated in acting under that authority. That’s something he promised to do and he’s doing it.

He nominated to the Supreme Court and then saw all the way through confirmation Judge Neal Gorsuch, a non-ideological and highly-regarded jurist and the very type of judge Mr. Trump promised repeatedly during the campaign to nominate.

He unveiled a plan to cut taxes in a decisive, effective and pro-competition way – just as he promised countless times during the campaign.

He has assembled what is arguably one of the most highly-qualified cabinets in the history of the country – just as he promised.

That’s all on the domestic front.

Internationally, President Trump, in a stark departure from his predecessor, is again asserting American resolve in a world fraught with danger. His decisive action against the Syrian thug dictator Bashar al-Assad announced to friend and foe that the United States intends to resume leading from the front. Again, as promised. (Why did no one ever point out how ridiculous “leading from behind” sounds?)

That he is doing exactly what he said he would do is a major reason that the Left is so unhinged in their opposition to him. The Left has become accustomed to neutering Republican presidents rather soon after Inauguration Day via their dominance of the media and the permanent staff-level jobs throughout the federal bureaucracy. Soon enough, the Left has come to believe, Republican presidents will learn their limitations in Washington and behave themselves accordingly.

But not this president. He’s acting not only as if he won the election but (gasp!) as if winning the election is actually supposed to mean something. He is behaving much like someone who has spent his entire adult life actually getting things done rather than just endlessly talking about getting things done.

In other words, he is the most frightening thing in a Republican president that liberals have ever seen.

So do I believe that President Donald Trump is doing a good job?

As we say here in Texas, you’re darn tootin’ I do.

  1. I agree, President Trump is doing a great job. He’d be doing even better if he had the support of the Republican establishment. Many establishment Republicans wish Trump gone as much as any Democrat. Trump makes it hard for the two parties to scratch each others back–all at the public expense.

President Trump could be doing a lot more if he would get rid of the CHILDREN in congress and find some ADULTS to put in office to expedite things. Never in my life have I seen such childishness as the way the left has acted during and especially after the ELECTION. Not only the left, the rinos in congress as well who are doing their level best to make President Trump stumble. CHILDREN in grown up clothes…ryan, mccain, mcconnell, graham just to name a few. These rinos are scared to death of President Trump exposing the lousy jobs they have been doing for…HOW MANY YEARS??? It is clear that neither side is wanting President Trump to succeed. One side because they LOST the election and the other side because their lousy job performance will be exposed. It is way past time they grew up and acted like the adults they are supposed to be. Work WITH President Trump to make America GREAT AGAIN, not against him just to keep the status quo. President Trump WON for a reason. ALLOW him to DO the JOB he promised he would do and stop trying to stop him at every turn. He is doing the best he can do with what he has to work with. STOP being stumbling blocks and start being BUILDING blocks!!!

Excellent essay Mr. Gleiser! You are right on the mark.

Go President Trump! with many more successes yet to come over the next four years, and then, the next four after that!
