What is there that is worthy of approval?

Paul GleiserWhat is there that is worthy of approval?

Here in the week of President Biden’s second State of the Union address the Real Clear Politics average of polls reveals that just 42 percent of voters rate the president favorably.

That statistic begs the question: What is it about this presidency that has a bit more than four out of ten voters favorably disposed? Did those in the 42 percent just get here? Can they not compare the state of things now to the state of things before Biden became president?

The comparison is not at all favorable. Space doesn’t permit an exhaustive analysis. We can only touch the high (or rather, low) points.

In January 2021, when Biden took office, the inflation rate was 1.4 percent – significantly below the Federal Reserve’s target of two percent. Inflation stands at over seven percent now. The simplest way to get your head around seven percent inflation is to understand that if you have a $100 bill in your wallet today that you hang on to, that C-note will only buy you $93 worth of goods and services this time next year. Inflation is like a tax on cash. But unlike the tax code, there are no loopholes and no deductions. Everyone pays. But, as usual, the burden falls disproportionately on the poor.

We have inflation because of irresponsible government spending. Under cover of COVID, the Biden administration poured a couple of trillion dollar’s worth of “relief” into the economy. That money set about chasing goods that weren’t there because of the trailing effects of the COVID lockdowns. Inflation naturally followed.

On top of inflationary spending came idiotic energy policy. Biden’s executive actions taken against the oil & gas industry curtailed energy supplies. Prices did what prices do when supplies shrink. Thus, a gallon of gas that cost $2.35 when Biden took office costs $3.50 today and is headed north. Natural gas is triple what it was when Biden took the oath.

All of that fuels inflation, too.

Inflation pushes up interest rates. On Inauguration Day 2021, a person with $1,500 to spend on a monthly mortgage payment could afford a $460,000 home (assuming 20 percent down). Thanks to rising rates fueled by Biden’s reckless spending, that same payment now affords only a $290,000 home – a near 40 percent drop.

Then there’s immigration. Thanks to Biden’s reversal of his predecessor’s immigration policies, five million poor, uneducated, social services-consuming migrants have entered the country illegally in just two years. Every taxpaying American – including those in the Biden-loving 42 percent – is paying to feed, clothe, school, house and medicate them.

Biden’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan so emboldened our enemies that China’s Xi Jingping decided to see if he could invade our sovereign airspace with impunity. Mission accomplished. Xi flew a spy balloon across the entirety of the United States – something that he would never have dared try under any prior president.

There’s so much more but space doesn’t permit.

So, back to the question.

You 42 percenters – what is it, exactly, that inclines you favorably toward this manifestly bad president?

Paul, That’s what is scary. He’ll always have that 42% of the voters no matter how poor his performance or whether or not he hides in the basement as he did in 2020 and as Fetterman did in 2022.

That number is his floor; the same number is Trump’s ceiling even though their performances in office are quite different.

  2. Mike says:

The 42% are so blinded by the Democratic Party lies and the fear of Trump that they are irrational in their thinking and actions.

I can’t believe there are 42% that are that stupid.

One of the most critical aspects of today’s world and the political climate is the lack of questioning and investigation of all the lies and fraud of Washington by the media. The National Media is unquestioningly complicit in their support of the Progressives since Barack H. Obama and the Marxist took the Presidency. Look at the monumental effort that took place and continues to perpetuate in the total destruction of Donald Trump! Billions upon billions of dollars, countless hours, and massive resources focused on one person. You and I do not stand a chance against such evil power. I think Dan Bongino is correct in his assertion Biden is a Foreign Agent and always has been. He and his family are mercenary’s at worse; taking money from any and all foreign powers that dangle drugs, women, and cash in front of their sorry faces. The National Media does nothing more than condone and empower such treasonous actions.

  5. That statistic says 5.2 of 10 disapprove. How, then, did he get elected in 2020, and why have we let it stand. Why did we elect the cowardly lions back into Republican office. The problem is with the conservatives who think we are still playing “ball… between the 40 yard lines.” Our opponents are Chicago mobsters compared to McConnell.

The problem spreads much further than D.C. Schools and colleges across the nation are brainwashing our children right before our eyes and school boards have placed “teachers” to do their bidding. They are trying to destroy from within and are doing one HELL of a job! If we don’t wake up soon it will be too late. Take back our children!!!

Darrell, my wife and I saw a segment on FOX exposing the Baltimore, Maryland school system’s failures particularly in Math scores. Twenty-Three schools (23) out of the 79 schools in that system had ZERO students proficient in math; that was Zippo! So, my wife being a retired teacher picked up her laptop and went to the Baltimore School System’s website. O M G!!! I suggest this site as a “Must Read” to get a real sense at the blatant, unrepenting woke, racist, Progressive agenda for our kids. The site makes no bones about their goals of nothing short of ridding the school system of anybody and anything “White” and that “studies” show minority students “want and do better with minority teachers….” Obviously, this theory is destroyed by the very fact that 23 schools did not achieve a single passing score in math!!!! It is beyond reason and decency for these children. I will give them credit for one aspect; they do not hide anything. If you are of any other race other than African American, you need not apply. Go check it out; it is sobering indeed!!!

Now, in all fairness; the FOX segment interviewed parents of these students. The parents were in tears and were very angry as they should be. But, these same parents are going up against the Woke, Progressive machine, a.k.a. National Teacher’s Union and really do not have a chance. Compounded with the Chinese virus and closure of these schools during the height of the Pandemic, these kids are doomed. It is painfully obviously the Baltimore teachers are all in on lowering the bar as far as they can force it to drop all the while padding their six figure salaries. Baltimore is definitely not short on Federal Government funds for the schools, it is short on professionals who give a darn about these kids and the future of our Country.
