Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is a pathological liar. (In other news, it gets hot in Saudi Arabia.)
I fully disclaim that I can’t stand Chuck Schumer. I am sick up to here with his faux somberness and his oh, so serious countenance as he intones ominously on the existential threat to the republic posed by whichever common sense Republican policy has his knickers in a knot this week.
It’s all performance art – an act – and Chuck is a terrible actor.
The latest example of Schumer-style mendacity came Wednesday. The government has now been shut down for a month in what is being correctly characterized as “the Schumer Shutdown.” And the federal government’s rapidly dwindling ability to spend money is about to bite hard.
The Department of Agriculture says that with the cash the department had on hand for the SNAP program (read: food stamps) now exhausted, about 40 million people who count on food stamps won’t get them starting Saturday.
That’s big. I could do three hours on how wrong it is that one in eight Americans rely on the government for food. But let’s simply say that a lot of people won’t have grocery money this weekend.
People who are hungry tend to get a little grumpy.
Among the reasons that Schumer won’t let his caucus vote on a continuing resolution to keep the government open is that Democrats want to continue taxpayer-funded subsidies for those buying Obamacare health insurance past the expiration of those subsidies on December 31. (Oh, and because Schumer is up in 2026 and he’s about to be successfully primaried by far-left loon barmaid-turned-congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. In other words, he’s panicked.)
So, yesterday, Chuckie dropped this gem.
Because of these vicious, drastic cutbacks, millions will lose their health care altogether. Tens of millions will pay thousands and tens of thousands more for health care, and 51,000 people will die.”
Put a sock in it, Chuck. This is a problem of your own making. First, where did you get 51,000 people? Why not 67,000 or 102,000? Answer: because it’s a made-up number. Whenever a politician tells you that thousands are going to die, you’re being played.
The subsidies are not an original part of Obamacare. They were enacted in 2021 under the American Rescue Plan as a temporary measure during the pandemic lockdowns. They were extended in 2022 – and the December 31, 2025 sunset date now at the center of the government shutdown was added – under the mockingly named Inflation Reduction Act.
Both laws passed without a single Republican vote.
If ending Obamacare subsidies is “vicious and drastic,” it’s on you, Chuckie. You and your fellow Dems created the disaster that is Obamacare. You created the existential pain scenario that will always accompany ending a government handout. People are going to have trouble buying food this weekend because of your intransigence (and your fear of losing your job).
You midwifed this entire fiasco.

Gotta say it is truly amazing people believe and vote for Democrats. For how many years have they lied to everyone? Democrats are the Party of doom and gloom with no solutions to anything other than giving our money away to many other countries that hate us or do incredibly stupid, ridiculous things. Answer this one question: Do YOU really want to have our tax dollars spent on Muppets promoting Transexual ideology in Peru? The hold up on ending the shutdown; money for illegals?!?! The Dems say it is the ACA; but that’s a lie too. Democrats do not give one hoot about “The People”. They really do not. Now Republicans are not the saints they portray either. But, Democrats like Schumer, Pelosi, Blumenthal, Coons, Crazy Bernie, Pocahontas, Crockett, etc, etc, are just plain evil liars that want nothing but power and our money. I get it that you’re fired up Paul, but preaching to the choir just doesn’t work. This post needs to be nationwide i.e. NY Post or Washington Examiner. Schumer/Democrat diversion! The “planned” government shutdown’s real purpose is to undermine the success of Trump’s economic recovery rooted in capitalism! When it comes to creating and maintaining the “government socialism” agenda all of us are living under, the Socialist Democrats will stop at nothing to keep America’s economy hostage to Socialism. Think back to the “release” of the COVID-19 germs that created the pandemic. Death was not an issue when it came to stopping the Trump agenda! The current “government shutdown” is all about destroying capitalism and pushing Socialism on all of us!
Paul i had the pleasure to speak with you on 660 twice before the elections i told you then that biden and his administration were evil and i put out my facts that obama was behind it all as the communist that he is still to this day and the fact that when dirt bag hillary clinton was running against him her campaign knew all this, but hillary being the dirt bag that she still is went along with the media that vetted his whole life and hid it all. Today we are still, fighting the media and now with Mandani bernie and that demon from hell aoc. Mandani is obama repackaged The left and the ones voting for them are like Cancer and the problem with that, Cancer has no cure.
I read that Mr. Schumer fears the loss of his chairmanship if he angers four-to-five persons to his very-liberal far left. It seems not to matter the damage he is doing; after all, these 42-million hungry people will find some way to eat? And they are not really important, are they? After all, it is only politics.
P.S.– Mr. Gleiser, when are you going to write a book? It might be expanded chapters from your weekly “You Tell Me Texas”? A book seems long overdue. You are very busy, but many authors have the assistance of “ghost writers”.
People haven’t a clue how bad it COULD be because they didn’t live during the depression! My Granny did and she told me stories of how it was. And believe me it was not pretty. People who lived in the country didn’t have it quite as bad because they could grow their own food with the help of people who would share seeds and if the crops were good would share with those who had nothing. My Pappa worked in those CCC camp projects building buildings in National Forests and different places but there were very little you could do to actually have a job. The once rich were not so well off during the depression either. There were NO programs like snap or other things that people have become dependent on and she had 5 children to feed. She lost one.
People now do not have a clue just how BAD it could get. BUT what the democraps want is not just to make things harder for the ones they make you think they want to help, but to put more money into their pockets by FUNDING programs putting their dirty little paws into! Just think people like aoc who was a BAR TENDER is now a MILLIONAIRE!!! And at WHOSE expense? Something to think about people! AND just go look at what ole chuckie & company are funding and ask yourself is this what you are PAYING your Congressman or woman to spend OUR TAX MONEY ON??? Keep putting people like chuckie, aoc, ole bernie, and others like them in office or back into office and this country will never be the same!
