I’m a little put out with President Trump right now. If you believe the polls, I’m not alone.
He is doing things from Trump 1.0 that I thought he had left behind in Trump 2.0
First, there’s the Iran war. I’ll at least allow for the possibility that in the end this conflict might prove to have been the right thing to do. Time will tell. But from a political standpoint the timing couldn’t be worse.
The resulting four dollar-plus gasoline and six dollar-plus diesel may be enough to hand control of Congress to the radical loons who have taken over the Democratic Party.
Right thing or wrong thing, it certainly wasn’t over in a few weeks as Trump promised.
But let’s say Trump had no choice on that timing. He certainly had a choice about renaming the Kennedy Center after himself. There is no exigent circumstance that necessitates renaming Lake Ontario.
These are Trump 1.0 moves. They accomplish nothing of policy substance. But they risk annoying swing voters without whom no candidate can win a political race.
And I absolutely hated him calling himself, “the greatest president in the history of the United States” during his convention in Dallas. I mean, c;’mon. Even if that were true – and only history can render that judgement – it’s not polite to say so yourself.
But here’s the big reason I’m put out with Trump.
Republicans should be winning this midterm election in a waltz. That’s not going to happen. The GOP will be lucky if it isn’t a bloodbath.
An enviable economic record is getting crushed by a toxic combination of Trump ego and high gasoline prices.
Enviable?
Absolutely. Andrea Widburg at American Thinker did a great job running it down.
- One million new private sector jobs.
- The lowest poverty rate since we started tracking that statistic.
- Record low Hispanic poverty rates and near record low black poverty rates.
- Record high household income.
- The massive tax cuts of the One Big Beautiful Bill.
- A gargantuan amount of overseas investment in American industry.
- A soaring stock market that is dramatically improving the retirement prospects of tens of millions of Americans.
- A border that is under total operational control for essentially the first time ever.
- The largest-ever recorded drop in violent crime.
- The lowest murder rate since 1900.
Nothing Democrats are proposing will produce a record like this.
And it’s toweringly rich for Democrats to be running on the word, “affordability” when the places in which they dominate politically are the least affordable places in the country. (Don’t like four bucks a gallon for gas in Texas? Think about six bucks or more in California.)
So, yes, I’m a little put out with President Trump right now. You can be, too.
But now that I have said that, get over it.
Trump’s not on the ballot. His policy record is and it’s by and large a good one.
I’m never in the tank for a particular politician anyway. I’m always in the tank for the country.
And the country is on the line.
Perfect analysis. Keep up the good work. It is hard enough to keep reminding what the Democrats have offered us with Trump allowing his ego to run un-checked. Know out a couple of Iran power plants and end this thing. A serious drop in fuel prices may be the only thing that will save us from the idiots on the other side of the fence.

Trump thinks 20 miles ahead of everybody. His economic agenda is the most important in America’s history! Lose the midterms and Republican control, and we will see “soup lines.” America needs “new money”! New money is ONLY created by Growing, Mining, or producing a product for a PROFIT! At 40 trillion in debt and borrowing millions daily, America is doomed! It is either re-industrialize or face another “deep depression”! That is what matters the most in the next election! Time to put feelings and anxiety aside and back where they belong! It is time for wisdom and common sense! I trust President Trump! I have yet to find one of his decisions that has been bad for America, including renaming Lake Ontario!
I agree that Trump is his own worst enemy in front of a microphone. That is one reason the Democrats hate him so much. He calls it like he sees it. But he does pay himself on the back too much. Nobody can predict what is in the minds of voters, or what will be most on their minds at the critical time of voting. We can only hope they choose correctly.
100% Paul. His accomplishments most definitely are overshadowed by his malignant narcissism. Unforced errors of judgment will suffocate conservatives at the polls. We need a true mature statesman the likes of Marco Rubio to restore integrity to the office.
Marco Rubio would not be as effective as Secretary of State if it were not for the lessons learned from Trump between 2020 and 2024. Trump has taught the GOP how to go on the offensive, FINALLY!
The best thing Trump has done is get in the head and live rent free in those who oppose us, such as NATO, the EU, the media, democrats, the Mullahs in Iran, Carney, the thugs in Cuba, Xi, and Putin.
These people may not fear Trump, but they certainly respect him, perhaps only privately. They never did this for Biden, Obama, Bush 41 or 43, and certainly never for people like Romney, Clinton, or Harris. Jeb! could be included with that bunch.
About the polls, them with a grain of salt. The polls showed a “nailbiter” in 2024 for POTUS. I remember tuning into both Fox and MSNBC at the time, both said it was going to be “a long night”. In 2016 I saw a poll that said Hillary would take over 400 electoral college votes, and win the popular vote by a huge margin. Wrong again!
Believe it or not, I agree with Jasmine Crockett! She said don’t watch the polls, watch the money. In the race for Tx Senate, the DNC is spending little or no money on the race. Why, because they need it in other races where they know they have a chance. The polls all show Talarico slightly ahead, but if you believe the media and the left that Texas is on the cusp of turning blue as they say, how come the DNC isn’t throwing tons of money into the Talarico campaign? The GOP has a war chest of money, and the dems are nearly broke. You can bet the farm that many GOP candidates will flood the market with ads, and the persistent cleaning of voter rolls will help also.
The main thing as always, show up and vote!
I wrote essentially the same on Fox News Articles Comments today. It could be soooooo much better without Trumps ego and mouth, and the midterms wouldn’t be hanging in the balance. I would have said the same on Newsmax Articles Comments, but recently they silently and suddenly eliminated all article comments, the cowards.
Well said Paul and I totally agree. He’s done a lot of great things but shot himself in the foot with all his bragging. Old saying, “It ain’t bragging if you can do it,” but just wish he’d shut up and let others do it for him. Based on Real Clear Politics averages, it’s not a pretty picture right now, but hope there’s a lot of people that are like me that hang up when pollsters call. As for the war in Iran, wish somebody would start reminding people which president caused all the problems with the country in the first place.
Dear Paul, Boy have you opened up a huge can of worms. I am going to make my “closing statement” first. Or as I have said many times in my conversations with my spouse, bottom line! President Trump needs our 100% trust and encouragement at this time in our country. NOW: Iran War: This was started for the preservation of life on this planet. Yes, it is about preserving the souls and their lives all over this earth. For almost 50 years this religious group has threatened the entire world with total destruction. As I look back in time no world leader has said “ENOUGH”. President Trump did. Next, the Kennedy Center. No way should we critique the circumstances of that situation. Why? Because we do not know all the facts, deals made, and decisions relating to this. If the President took on this renovation to a much loved and deteriorating facility, why shouldn’t he be recognized for it. I think we should support his decisions on this. We don’t have all the facts. Besides that, the opposition is being handled by the left. Next, Lake America (and Gulf of America) etc. Why not? He loves this country and wants to exalt Her name wherever he can. (my opinion) Next, gas prices. I know they are high and why? Does anyone remember the “70’s? This always happens when global situations are occurring. Gasoline prices and availability has always been used to affect politics, etc. Always! (Just a note: To help fill up that gas tank try to stop buying all that Chinese crap at Walmart and put that money in your tank.) Finally, the infamous word, “ego”. Boy, do I have a lot to say about. After being married to a man for almost 50 years whose primary personal trait is “ego”, I consider myself to be an expert on that subject. All men have it to some degree and it is good/bad. I am happy for that because it is closely tied to strength, endurance, stability and protection that we look to in our American men. President Trump, I give him kudos for all the “ego” he has and uses. Why, because I don’t have all the facts about the situations in the world today. So dire and serious, it’s mind boggling. I take comfort in trusting this man to make his decisions about these things. I love that he is “loving American” and is sprucing Her up? That’s the unpolitical part of him. I am disappointed in your focus on trivial concerns like Trump’s name on buildings, ignoring the sacrifices he’s made for our country.
Do you think you could withstand the Fourth Estate criticizing your every move daily?
Have you forgotten that Carter gave away the Panama Canal in September 1977 for a dollar? The cost to the Americans at the early turn of the 1900s was in the millions, along with the loss of American men’s
lives.
In addition, Jefferson’s 1807 embargo, Wilson’s disaster, “ The Treaty of Versailles?”, JFK’s –“ Bay of Pigs”, Bush’s Iraq War, LBJ’s immoral Vietnam, Reagan’s lack of courage to put away the terrorist who bombed 241 of our Marines in Beirut- all the President’s debacles had evil results. I am still upset about the Canal. Carter was so stupid and dishonored the hard work of our citizens who risked their lives and money, only to see it given away.
In my view, Trump’s courage to make tough decisions that protect us exemplifies true leadership, regardless of how he appears publicly.
When I want to hear humility, I will go to church. Look around; our country is out of order, and it will take a drill sergeant to put it back on course. God has placed Donald J. Trump in the White House for a reason. Ask the people who tried to kill him or jail him how that worked out. Man cannot deny what God has ordained.
Remember, replacing the late, great Rush Limbaugh with a comedian, Jimmy Failla, has been your disaster. Failla does not speak with seriousness, intelligence, or maturity. The only time I will tune in is when you substitute. I do not know how anyone thinks Jimmy has the life skills for the political environment.

Robin, if you want to point out President Trump’s policy successes I am right there with you. If you want to point out the disastrous policies of Carter, Wilson, et.al., I am again right there with you. If you want to point out Trump’s toughness and decisiveness, you’ll get no argument from me.
Trump’s two presidencies have been policy tours de force. And his base – i.e. folks like you – is with him all the way.
The fine point that you are missing is that elections cannot be won with base voters like you alone. It never happens. Elections are decided by independents and moderates that can go one way or another — often based on emotion rather than reason. That’s why they’re called “swing voters.” Anything that potentially alienates one of these voters is a problem. Renaming Lake Ontario brings with it, as I said in my piece, exactly zero policy benefit. None. It simply becomes a distraction. And it rubs a lot of folks the wrong way. Even some Trump base voters. But they’ll stick with him anyway. That independent voter may not. That voter will either vote Democrat this time or stay home. Either way, it helps the Democrats.
The stakes are unusually high in this midterm election. What I fear more than anything right now is a Democratic sweep of both chambers of Congress. If that happens, all policy advancement by the Trump administration will come to a grinding halt. Endless investigations and bogus impeachments will follow as surely as night follows day. It will be such a miserable two years that it will trigger the “It’s time for a change” chant and that risks losing the White House in 2028. Hello open borders and all the rest of the joy we had for four years under Joe Biden.
That’s why I’m taking Trump to task. And if the polls are even slightly believable, I’m not alone in my belief.
As to Jimmy Failla…
His program has been a huge success for us. FOX Across America is by far the highest rated program on KTBB. My worst fears about audience loss following the death of Rush simply did not come to pass as a result of choosing Jimmy over the other candidate programs.
I have been programming news and talk radio for more than 40 years now. One thing that I know for sure after all that time is that we will never be able to please everyone. I’m sorry you don’t like the show. But enough people do that we will be happily sticking with it.

Yes, I concur with your point, but I differ from the “swing” voter concept because swing voters, or independents, vote based on their emotions.
Meanwhile, the committed Democrats covered for Biden’s dementia in addition to all the destruction he created, i.e., the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
On the other hand, Trump represents our nation’s values in which he has saved American jobs, closed the border, opened up our endless supply of oil and gas, and much more!
Worried about the midterms? It has already been decided!
I doubt Trump is worried if the left wants to stone him to death! What is new?
The Republicans eat their own, as do the democrats!

Generally, they vote left, but I am old enough to have seen that the public is not in charge of the outcomes. Yes, I will vote, as I have since for fifty years.
Outcomes are decided by what our country deserves!

Dear Robin Everett, I agree with everything you have said. I struggled to find something that I didn’t agree with and could not. Including that idiot, Jimmy Failla. He’s a fence sitter. I hate to put his name in the same paragraph as Rush. Rush left such a legacy of great and decent “all things”. Part of that legacy is that he left us with a road map of our future travels down this road of politics. I remember so much of his opinions fueled by his great gift of discernment. I even went to his TV show in NYC so I was a devoted listener. Rush had a warrior’s heart. So does President Trump. Well, we all have our opinions and ideas and that is good for those of us on this side of life, in all things. We know what the other side thinks because it’s always opposition. ……………..Paul helps us stay on top of the journey we are on right now and I am thankful to him for that.
