Now what?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has thrown in the towel on impeachment, even if she won’t come out and actually say it. Her invitation this week to President Trump to come to the House chamber to deliver the State of the Union address on February 4 is tacit admission that impeachment is over.

Pelosi, with whom I vigorously disagree but whose political acumen I have long recognized and respected, is caught between political reality and the squawking, yowling day-care center inside her own caucus. “The Squad,” four far-left freshman congresswomen led by former New York barmaid Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – aka “AOC” – has effectively nullified Nancy Pelosi’s control over the House.

Rep. Cortez and the Squad have managed to pull the Democratic Party into very left-most precincts of Crazyville (though in the cases of people like Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler, they didn’t have to pull very hard).

Ms. Pelosi has long known that impeachment was and is a bad idea. She is on record fairly recently saying so. She knows that impeachment has landed with a thud. But she dare not admit it lest she be set upon by her far left Democrat base, the media and AOC’s 6.1 million lunatic Twitter followers.

So, Ms. Pelosi is sitting on the articles of impeachment that passed under her gavel and is refusing to send them to the Senate, in the apparent hope that a national amnesia epidemic sets in and the whole thing just goes away. Donald Trump is president, will remain so for the rest of his term and will likely win re-election.

And Nancy Pelosi knows it.

In our constitutional government, impeachment is nitroglycerin. If not handled with extreme caution, it will blow up in the faces of those attempting to use it. (Just ask Newt Gingrich.)

Such is the case with the impeachment of Donald Trump. Not only did impeachment fail to unseat the president – something that a political pro like Nancy Pelosi knew all along would never happen – it didn’t even damage the president politically. There are any number of polls that say that being impeached along strictly partisan lines actually made Trump stronger.

So here the Democrats sit, less than 10 months out from the 2020 election, with exactly no ammunition left (save for maybe appointing Rep. Al Green of Texas as chairman of the Permanent Committee on Impeachment). The Dems have thrown everything they could get their hands on at Donald Trump and every last bit of it has bounced off.

The Mueller investigation was a bust. Countless House committee investigations have gone nowhere. In fact, Donald Trump likely holds the distinction of being the most investigated U.S. president in history – all to exactly zero good effect for Democrats.

Against a backdrop of the best economy that most living Americans have ever seen and with nothing left to throw at him, Democrats can do nothing now but watch Trump tee up a second term that will likely be even more successful than the first.

The Democrats are working harder than anyone to get Donald Trump reelected.

The radical, but mega-donor, left wing progressives have the honor of creating this mess for the Democrats! They attached strings to their support that would only be forthcoming with impeachment, so the Democrats dutifully obeyed. No matter that it was a suicidal endeavor, these left wing nuts can brag that President Trump is one of the very few presidents to have been impeached. When history records this shameful abuse of congressional power, I think that the censure will actually be seen as an enhancement to the image of the Trump administration. By using this constitutional power as a political tool to overturn elections, the Democrats have opened the door for a lot of future mischief, which should give the 2018 House of Representatives the distinction of being the worst congress in the history of this great nation. I just hope that there will be an asterisk by the name of Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House during this disgraceful debacle!

    • Pelosi will have a tough time measuring-up to predecessors.

Newt Gingrich was forced to resign due to marital infidelities.

The first choice to replace Gingrich, Bob Livingston, was also forced to resign due to marital infidelities.

Dennis Hastert thus became Speaker. He’d later go to jail for molesting kids.

John Boehner is now lobbying for the cannabis industry.

Nancy Pelosi is a shrewd politician. She made a serious error in judgment by allowing “the squad” to be heard loud and clear calling for impeachment. She knew it would not succeed in removal but only hoped for irreparable damage. However, Trump not only survived but continued to enjoy support, even bringing some democrats over the fence, albeit some with torn pants legs! They have begun to realize their futile efforts. Then when Trump had Suleimani killed and nobody died in the missile strikes by Iran the democrats tried to make it seem immoral, criminal, despicable behavior by a mentally deranged human. Rose McGowan even apologized to Iran, saying she is being held against her will. If she, or anyone else, does not WANT to live in the US anymore, I will GLADLY buy them a plane ticket TO the destination of their choice!

Get real Holland! No HIGH-information voter would ever believe ANYTHING the Washington Post has to say from Nov. 7, 2016 (or later) about politics, given the despicable, anti-American, hate Trump, Leftist-Democrat propaganda machine that this rag represents and that has been the bible to NO-information voters and lovers of the New York Times as well.

I failed to note that the bogus Washington Post article that posted on November 7, 2016 at 4:00 a.m. CST, was obviously intended to insult the Trump voters that were planning to ELECT Donald Trump as President of the United States of America the very next day, much to the HORROR of the elitists that authored this waste of web electrons and ink. This 2016 national election was delicious beyond belief to me as the Democrat Marxist Media had to accept their LOW-information understanding of the High-information electorate and the Nation at large.

Holland, you hit the trifecta this time. You linked an article that 1) has nothing to do with Paul’s point about the hapless Congressional Democrats, 2) was written by a couple of liberal academic hacks for a liberal audience over 3 years ago, and 3) relied on a survey from Jan 2016 when there were still a dozen legitimate Republicans in the Presidential race (buried in the blather….read your article). So your link is not relevant, not credible, and not up to date. One of your better postings, though.

The Democrats have exposed themselves as radical Socialists, Marxists, and Communists of the first order because of their rabid hatred of President Trump and what he represents. The miscreant Democrats lead by Pathetic Pelosi and her demented leadership (Schiff and Nadler with their plans to impeach Trump beginning on Inauguration Day) have illustrated irrational and dangerous behavior to justify a “seek and destroy” agenda to disenfranchise Trump’s supporters (the winning voters) and overturn the election at all costs.

These Democrats see us and Trump as a threat to their Deep State corruption machine that has become a source of extreme wealth to stealth radical Democrats in power at all levels of government, academia, and the media. Trump’s emphasis on keeping promises with real, tangible results flies into the face of the traditional Democrat promises of Utopian Socialism (without any logical methods to achieve it through free enterprise) because it is based on legalized (government authorized) theft and a fallacious belief in the theory of economics as a zero-sum game.

In other words, Democrats can’t compete when their flowery words of Marxist ideology fall flat when measured against the concrete achievements by a “business man” such as Trump who is ending International appeasement and Bureaucrat supporting regulations that harm our potential as loyal American citizens. Their hatred for Trump should be recognized as hatred for those of us who reject their plans to destroy Constitutional Conservatism. They are using character assignation of Trump and his voters who they think are too STUPID for them to tolerate any longer. THAT is the message I get from this impeachment debacle: Trump and our freedom to prosper is their existential Enemy that must be crushed through tyranny, if necessary. The Democrat immorality on display is breathtaking.

I humbly correct the misspelled words in my comment: {“led” by Pathetic Pelosi} and {character “assassination” of Trump}.

Democrats are just on a witch hunt, just further driving people apart. Politics have really taken a turn for the worse by politicians just looking to stab each other in the back. Politicians have forgotten all about focusing on the country and what people want and need. The badgering has gotten out of hand along with the drama.
