Things I wish for.

The world is not perfect. In the area of politics and policy, I have come to understand that not only is it not perfect, it’s downright lousy, mostly. So it has been since the dawn of the republic.

Still, I wish some things were different. I have a list, actually.

For starters, I wish Donald Trump had kept his pants zipped. Let sordid things attendant to sex be the province of Dems like Bill Clinton and Anthony Weiner. I’d like it a lot better if the guys on my team could own the high ground on the subjects of sex, women and their behaviors attendant thereto. If Trump had kept his fly zipped, there would have never been a reason for Michael Cohen, his personal attorney, to have paid a gold-digging porn star $130,000 to keep her mouth shut. Then there would be no predicate for Robert Mueller raiding Mr. Cohen’s office and home to go deep diving for any little morsel to take down a duly elected president.

I’m being selfish on this one. President Trump’s policies by and large are helping my business and I wish he would be left alone to keep pursuing them. The fewer distractions, the better.

Since I’m wishing I might as well wish that George H.W. Bush had read his own lips and not raised taxes. That likely would have spared us the election of Bill Clinton. That would have given us the double benefit of being spared the entire horror of Hillary.

Still closing my eyes and dreaming, I wish that George W. Bush had done a better job in the days immediately after deposing Saddam Hussein. Perhaps then clear victory would not have devolved into deadly chaos, destroying W’s presidency and severely damaging the GOP.

On the subject of Republicans, I wish that Mitt Romney had grown a pair and taken a vulnerable Barack Obama down in that debate on foreign policy. Romney of course did no such thing. He stood there with weak smile on his face looking like Ward Cleaver – thus forfeiting a winnable election.

And here’s the biggie. I wish the media would pick one day per year in which they all agreed to be honest. If they were to pick today, for example, they would report that weekly U.S. jobless claims have now been below 300,000 for the longest streak in history. They would report that the U.S. economy is growing near or above three percent – numbers that the previous administration said were no longer possible. They would report that jobs, capital investment and corporate earnings are all rising sharply. They’d tell us that the Treasury is collecting record revenues. They would report that ISIS has been substantially defeated.

And they’d also honestly and forthrightly tell us that there is probable cause to believe that the Clintons committed multiple felonies and that the Justice Department grossly abused its powers.

That’s five wishes by my count. Like Aladdin, I’d settle for any three.

Hell, just grant me one.

Yes, it would have been nice if Mr. Trump had kept his pants zipped. But you have to remember that Mr. Trump was in the PRIVATE sector and not in politics as clinton was during his escapades. Look the public knew Mr. Trump was not perfect, far from it, but he was ELECTED anyway. He should have used better judgment rather than go dumpster diving, but that is past. The lawyer took things in his own hands instead of just telling her it would not do her any good to try and extort money. From the looks of things, this is what she had planned all along if she had tapes and other things to incriminate Mr. Trump. If anything, SHE should serve time in jail for trying to blackmail someone. One has to wonder why it came up in the first place if SHE had not contacted someone. Mr. Trump is far different from clinton by a long shot and to even remotely compare him to billy boy is just crazy. Do I approve of what Mr. Trump did? NO! Instead of wasting time looking back at what was done when he was a private citizen, let’s look forward to what he has already done for this country for the better as President. He has WORK to do. He doesn’t need the distractions of people going out of the way looking for dirt on someone who has done so much already to help this country get back on her feet. President Trump has done NOTHING but help, not hinder this Country…unlike the clintons and the illegal(obama). If I could have one wish…just ONE, it would be to see the clintons and the obamas in prison where they belong. And those who have helped them along the way go there as well!

  2. A great column and a pretty darn good follow up by Ms. Montrose. I find myself in agreement with you both. And I’m sure with Ms. Montrose on her one wish, that the Clintons see the inside of a prison. Give the decline in our whole culture, it is unlikely we will produce new Washingtons, Lincolns, or Reagans. But it is my belief and hope that Donald Trump is a better man these days. He must be doing something right, given the outstanding way his children turned out, to say nothing of his wife.

  3. I wish RINO Paul Ryan would leave NOW, and Louie Gohmert would be elevated to Speaker.

The democrat/liberal/socialists and the establishment RINO’s can not afford to allow President Trump to be successful. It would prove what the founders intended was the way it should be in that you go to DC, serve your country and go home to live under the very laws you helped promote while in office. The career politicians are riding a gravy train they can not allow a real business man to derail. It should amaze all what this president has accomplished while dodging the land mines placed in his path by the lame stream media, democrats and RINOs. Let those without sin cast the first stone. Otherwise, shut the hell up and let the man do his job. I don’t condone some of the things he’s accused of doing while a private citizen, but none of us are without fault and the fact they have to go back 10, 15 or even 30 years to find dirt should make us all laugh when the accusers lied to us just yesterday, the day before and the days before that………………..
